Who is Day & Night?

Day And Night is a renowned brand whose core operations involve the manufacturing of furnaces in addition to other equipment. It’s owned by United Technologies. Over the years, they’ve continuously strived to build a reputation for value, and they’ve been very successful in achieving just that.

Other equipment or product offerings by the company include air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless systems, fan coils, evaporator coils, geothermal, packed products, and thermostats. United Technologies, the parent company, owns both Day and Night Furnaces and Carrier (another leading brand of AC and heating).

What Makes Day & Night Furnaces Stand Out From the Competition?

Day & Night Furnaces are owned by United Technologies, who also owns other leading furnace brands like Carrier, Bryant, and Payne. With over 50 years of experience providing optimal performance and durability on the matter of their products, we believe this is what makes them stand out from the competition.

The company is known for its innovative ideas and advanced technological integrations. The furnaces are extremely quiet, energy-efficient, and high performing while also being Energy Star qualified, so they are also environment and climate-friendly.

Furthermore, all models manufactured by the company feature dual-fuel models specially designed to work during extremely cold temperatures. The company offers three different types of staged heating, including variable-capacity furnaces, two-stage gas furnaces, and single-stage gas furnaces

These furnaces corroborate extremely high efficiency, which can be verified from their 98% annual fuel utilization efficiency percentage. This essentially means that 98% of the fuel is effectively utilized in heating, while only 2% is wasted.

They are also durable and known to last a lot longer, which can be seen by their bold warranties. The warranties offered by the company include a ten-year no-hassle replacement limited warranty, ten-year parts limited warranty, and lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty upon timely registration.

Lastly, the extremely diligent and responsive customer service seals the deal for this company.

What Recent Buyers Report

Most buyers seem quite happy with this gas furnace. It is not only great for the cold winters but also provides excellent dehumidification during the summers. The Ion System Control provides great connectivity with compatible air conditioners. Lastly, it is quite easy to install and service though maintenance would require expert intervention.

Why it Stands Out to Us

Day & Night G97CMN Ion 98 is one of the most efficient gas furnaces on the market. It boasts an impressive heating capacity of 60,000-120,000 BTUs. It is one of the quietest gas furnaces as well due to features such as the inducer motor, soft-mounted blower, and steel cabinets being insulated.

You can rest assured of its durability and longevity, as it is quite tough. This is due to the primary RPJ® (Rigid Press Joint) heat exchanger and the secondary stainless-steel heat exchanger. With further features such as temperature control that prevents overheating, this is a safe and reliable option.

Bottom Line

With an excellent efficiency rating of up to 98% AFUE, it is quite obvious how well this gas furnace operates. Furthermore, with the extensive warranties provided, you can rest assured that the company fully backs all their claims. This model is also Energy Star qualified, which means that not only will you be comfortable, but you’ll also be keeping the climate protected. With all this in mind, we don’t see how you could possibly go wrong with this one.

What Recent Buyers Report

They confirmed that installing this device did, in fact, provide better temperature control and, as a result, comfort. They also liked that they could use this for summer dehumidification.

Why it Stands Out to Us

The Day and Night G96CTN is the hallmark of high-efficiency and comfort. The roots of this advanced comfort and effective temperature control can be traced back to its core technologies. These incorporate the variable speed blower motor as well as the two-stage gas valve. What’s more is the duel fuel compatibility mechanism that’s fit for both heat pumps and thermostats. This ensures an overall streamlined energy-saving heating system.

Since this design is fabricated using a two-stage furnace, the unit operates on a low stage to save energy and shifts to higher settings as the temperature starts to drop.

Bottom Line

This furnace features a fully insulated cabinet to help keep the heat moving through the ductwork and is also air purifier and humidifier-compatible. It also offers a ten-year no-hassle replacement limited warranty and ten-year parts limited warranty if you register on time. All in all, this furnace is perfect for keeping your home warm and cozy.

  • Features a high-temperature limit control mechanism to prevent overheating issues

CONS

  • Single-stage operation as compared to two-stage found in other models

What Recent Buyers Report

Some buyers seem to love and prefer this particular model over others because of the 96% AFUE rating. This is because it, in turn, leads to higher efficiency and fuel utilization. They further report saying that the five-speed blower is immaculate in providing even levels of temperature control.

Why it Stands Out to Us

The reason buyers seem to love the Day and Night N95ESN is the same reason it stands out to us. The 96% AFUE rating, along with a single-stage burner, really sets this model apart. With a heating capacity of 26,000 to 140,000 BTUs, you can’t go wrong with this item.

Furthermore, an efficient multi-speed ECM blower motor has been embedded into the main design to substantially save energy and improve the overall performance. The unit also includes sound-reducing features that include the soft-mounted blower and inducer motor. Lastly, the furnace also exhibits an induced draft combustion motor and a reliable direct spark ignition.

Bottom Line

The specifications of the N95ESN really knock the ball out of the park. The induced draft combustion motor and reliable direct spark ignition deserve an honorable mention. Needless to say, this is a great investment if you want to plow your money into a reliable gas furnace.

It further constitutes a primary RPJ® (Rigid Press Joint) and a secondary stainless steel heat exchanger to further make it tougher.

It has an amazing heating capacity of around 60,000-120,000 BTUs. And with the direct spark gas ignition, reliability and consistency are guaranteed all year round. Furthermore, both the ECM blower motor and the induced draft combustion motor have variable speed. This aids in giving you more manual temperature control for your preferred comfort.

Bottom Line

There is little the Day & Night G96VTN QuietComfort 96 can’t do. The efficiency rating for this gas furnace is up to 96.0% AFUE. And with an excellent warranty program, you know that everything claimed is backed. Furthermore, it is Energy Star qualified, which means it takes into account the protection of the climate and not just your comfort. All in all, we don’t see any reason why this wouldn’t provide the comfort you are looking for

PROS

  • Humidifier and air-purifier capabilities
  • Ultra-low NOx design which performs quietly
  • Very energy-efficient but also good heat performance
  • Ten-year parts limited warranty and 20-year heat exchanger limited warranty

So it is great for people who are environmentally conscious as well.

Why it Stands Out to Us

The N95ESU Performance 95 Ultra-Low Nox is an affordable gas furnace. Though it isn’t their most advanced model, it does stand out due to its focus on being environmentally conscious. It focuses on being an energy-efficient, high-performing gas furnace that is also considerate of noise. It features the same sound dampening technology, such as a fully insulated cabinet with an inducer motor and soft mounted blower.

Furthermore, it has Silicon Nitride Ignitor for reliable direct gas ignition and a compatible thermostat with cool/heat detection. It boasts a heating capacity of up to 60,000-80,000 BTUh. It also has a solid and durable build. All in all, this is a great gas furnace when you are not looking for fancy features.

Bottom Line

Day & Night N95ESU Performance 95 Ultra-Low Nox is a great product. There isn’t anything that we can hold against it. It does what is made to do and doesn’t oversell itself. With an efficiency rating of up to 95% AFUE, and at the price point it’s at, it’s definitely a steal.

Day & Night Furnace Troubleshooting

While Day and Night furnaces are top-notch models, you can expect to come across problems. Some common problems, along with solutions, are discussed here:

Clogged Filter

Since the air filter is responsible for keeping dirt and debris as far away from the blower motor as possible, these accumulate on the filter quite easily. So, it’s best to change your air filter each month.

Loose Wire

We have seen how furnaces work. While they’re doing their job, they tend to vibrate. Over time, these vibrations can lead to the loosening of the internal wires. Hence, wires don’t connect properly, and so, the furnace doesn't turn on. If that’s the case, it’s best to call in a technician to take a look at it.

Transformer Failure

Transformer failure is another issue that can arise. If your transformer isn't working properly, it can cause the system to short out. Replacing the transformer with a new one is the obvious choice.

Day & Night Furnace Error Codes

Day and Night showcases error codes in three colors: red, green, and yellow. Each color flashes a specific number of times to indicate a particular problem. Refer to the instructions manual to learn what each one indicates.

Day & Night Furnace Won’t Turn Off

If that’s the case, the problem lies in the thermostat. The easiest way to fix this issue is by servicing the thermostat.

If you want to check whether your thermostat is the root factor that’s causing your burner to not turn off, there are two ways to do so. First, check if you’ve set your temperature too high. The other thing to check is if there’s a problem with the thermostat fan switch. This can be adjusted manually.

For this, locate the thermostat setting. Once you do it, you will see that it has two options, auto and on. If the fan is in the ‘on’ setting, it can keep running continuously, even when the furnace isn’t heating. Adjust the switch to ‘auto.’

If you’ve rectified both these issues and the problem still persists, you need to check the air filter, thermostat wiring, or the fan limit switch needs to be replaced.

Day & Night Furnace Fan Won’t Turn on

If you’re facing this problem, you need to start off by turning off your furnace. Next, change your thermostat settings to ‘fan only’ and wait for a little while. If the fan doesn’t start, you probably either have a wiring issue in your furnace or a motor problem. This can only be fixed by an HVAC technician who can correctly diagnose the root problem and take remedial measures accordingly.

Day & Night Furnace is Squealing When Starting

Like any other machinery, noise is a major factor in determining if something isn’t right. In a furnace, a high-pitched squealing can indicate a damaged component or part. This may require fixing, repairing, or replacement, without which it may cause further major damages. It is best to contact the company or an authorized professional expert when you hear sounds.

Day and Night Furnace Maintenance

Regular maintenance is a crucial requirement of Day and Night furnaces, just like any other electronic system. To further answer some basic queries, we’ve drafted the following section.

Before we jump into the questions, refer to the following simple steps for furnace maintenance:

  2. Vacuum out the burner and blower cavities.

  3. Remove the blower in order to clean it thoroughly.

  4. Clean the blower blades, taking serious precautions using a vacuum or a brush.

  5. Change your filter furnace regularly. You can use a fiberglass filter as it’s more affordable.

  7. Thoroughly clean the flame sensor using a delicate cloth.

  8. Blow off any residue or dust from the hot surface ignitor without establishing contact with it.

  9. Always inspect your drive belt for any possible frayed areas or cracks.

  10. Lubricate the furnace bearings.

  11. It is advised to seal leaky air ducts using metal tape or high-temperature silicone.

How to Light Pilot Light on a Day & Night Furnace

In order to do this, you first need to locate the instructions label on your particular model. Next, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the pilot switch on your furnace. It’s typically located on the bottom.

  2. Once you locate it, turn it off by selecting the ‘off position.’

  3. Now, wait at least five minutes to give time to the gas to dissipate.

  4. While waiting, take note of the position of the reset button.

  5. Once the gas has had time to dissipate, turn the knob switch to the pilot.

  6. Then, hold down the reset button and bring flame from your lighter closer to the pilot opening. This should do the job.

  7. Once the pilot has been lit, release the pressure you applied from the reset button.

Where is the Pilot Light on a Day & Night Furnace?

How to Change a Day & Night Furnace Filter

Changing the filter on your Day and Night furnace is not all that hard. Just follow these steps, and you’re good to go!

  1. First, open or slide the door panel to get access to the furnace.

  2. You’ll usually find the filter near where the cool air enters the furnace, in the cold air return duct, or the entrance to the blower chamber.

  3. Slide out the old filter and replace it with the new one.

  4. Ensure the airflow arrows on the side of the filter point in the right direction, i.e., towards the blower and away from the cold air.

  5. Now, replace the panel or door.

Make sure you replace the filter every month during the heating season. And, if you have air conditioning in the system, replace the filter each month all year long.

How to Remove Day & Night Furnace Pilot Tube

We would recommend you to check the user manual for your particular model in this regard. It will help you correctly locate the pilot tube and perform the necessary and recommended steps to properly remove it.

How to Clean a Day & Night Furnace

In order to keep your system in top condition, timely cleanliness is extremely important. Hence, follow the tips and tricks given below to keep everything as good as new.

  1. Turn off the power/gas to the furnace.

  2. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a damp rag. Remove the furnace access door by lifting it up and then out. Loose the screws in order to remove the burner cover.

  3. Next, vacuum the burners and furnace base.

  4. Gently remove the blower by unscrewing the control panel if it blocks the blower.

  5. Now, carefully clean the blower either with a vacuum or a soft brush.

  6. Carefully blow off the dust from the pilot using a straw. Try blowing off the dust from the hot surface ignitor in the same manner. Be very careful as it can break very easily.

  7. Clean the flame sensor as well.

  8. Then, remove and clean the oil caps. Also, oil the blower motor and shaft bearings. Make sure you don’t overdo them.

  9. Replace the air filters.

  10. Adjust the dampers for seasonal settings.
