In this article, we will be thoroughly examining many different models of furnaces by Day & Night.

G97CMN

Who is Day & Night?

Day And Night is a renowned brand whose core operations involve the manufacturing of furnaces in addition to other equipment. It’s owned by United Technologies. Over the years, they’ve continuously strived to build a reputation for value, and they’ve been very successful in achieving just that.

Other equipment or product offerings by the company include air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless systems, fan coils, evaporator coils, geothermal, packed products, and thermostats. United Technologies, the parent company, owns both Day and Night Furnaces and Carrier (another leading brand of AC and heating).

What Makes Day & Night Furnaces Stand Out From the Competition?

Day & Night Furnaces are owned by United Technologies, who also owns other leading furnace brands like Carrier, Bryant, and Payne. With over 50 years of experience providing optimal performance and durability on the matter of their products, we believe this is what makes them stand out from the competition.

The company is known for its innovative ideas and advanced technological integrations. The furnaces are extremely quiet, energy-efficient, and high performing while also being Energy Star qualified, so they are also environment and climate-friendly.

Furthermore, all models manufactured by the company feature dual-fuel models specially designed to work during extremely cold temperatures. The company offers three different types of staged heating, including variable-capacity furnaces, two-stage gas furnaces, and single-stage gas furnaces

These furnaces corroborate extremely high efficiency, which can be verified from their 98% annual fuel utilization efficiency percentage. This essentially means that 98% of the fuel is effectively utilized in heating, while only 2% is wasted.

They are also durable and known to last a lot longer, which can be seen by their bold warranties. The warranties offered by the company include a ten-year no-hassle replacement limited warranty, ten-year parts limited warranty, and lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty upon timely registration.

Lastly, the extremely diligent and responsive customer service seals the deal for this company.

Most buyers seem quite happy with this gas furnace. It is not only great for the cold winters but also provides excellent dehumidification during the summers. The Ion System Control provides great connectivity with compatible air conditioners. Lastly, it is quite easy to install and service though maintenance would require expert intervention.

Why it Stands Out to Us

Day & Night G97CMN Ion 98 is one of the most efficient gas furnaces on the market. It boasts an impressive heating capacity of 60,000-120,000 BTUs. It is one of the quietest gas furnaces as well due to features such as the inducer motor, soft-mounted blower, and steel cabinets being insulated.

What Recent Buyers Report

Buyers are very much pleased with this high-efficiency gas furnace, especially due to the two-stage gas valve and the fully variable-speed blower. Day & Night Furnace Troubleshooting

While Day and Night furnaces are top-notch models, you can expect to come across problems. Some common problems, along with solutions, are discussed here:

Clogged Filter

Since the air filter is responsible for keeping dirt and debris as far away from the blower motor as possible, these accumulate on the filter quite easily. So, it’s best to change your air filter each month.

Loose Wire

We have seen how furnaces work. While they’re doing their job, they tend to vibrate. Over time, these vibrations can lead to the loosening of the internal wires. Hence, wires don’t connect properly, and so, the furnace doesn’t turn on. If that’s the case, it’s best to call in a technician to take a look at it.

Transformer Failure

Transformer failure is another issue that can arise. If your transformer isn’t working properly, it can cause the system to short out. Replacing the transformer with a new one is the obvious choice.

Day & Night Furnace Error Codes

Day and Night showcases error codes in three colors: red, green, and yellow. Each color flashes a specific number of times to indicate a particular problem. Refer to the instructions manual to learn what each one indicates.

Day & Night Furnace Won’t Turn Off

If that’s the case, the problem lies in the thermostat. The easiest way to fix this issue is by servicing the thermostat.

If you want to check whether your thermostat is the root factor that’s causing your burner to not turn off, there are two ways to do so. First, check if you’ve set your temperature too high. The other thing to check is if there’s a problem with the thermostat fan switch. This can be adjusted manually.

For this, locate the thermostat setting. Once you do it, you will see that it has two options, auto and on. If the fan is in the ‘on’ setting, it can keep running continuously, even when the furnace isn’t heating. Adjust the switch to ‘auto.’

If you’ve rectified both these issues and the problem still persists, you need to check the air filter, thermostat wiring, or the fan limit switch needs to be replaced.

Day & Night Furnace Fan Won’t Turn on

If you’re facing this problem, you need to start off by turning off your furnace. Next, change your thermostat settings to ‘fan only’ and wait for a little while. If the fan doesn’t start, you probably either have a wiring issue in your furnace or a motor problem. This can only be fixed by an HVAC technician who can correctly diagnose the root problem and take remedial measures accordingly.

Day & Night Furnace is Squealing When Starting

Like any other machinery, noise is a major factor in determining if something isn’t right. In a furnace, a high-pitched squealing can indicate a damaged component or part. This may require fixing, repairing, or replacement, without which it may cause further major damages. It is best to contact the company or an authorized professional expert when you hear sounds.

1. First, open or slide the door panel to get access to the furnace.

2. You’ll usually find the filter near where the cool air enters the furnace, in the cold air return duct, or the entrance to the blower chamber.

3. Slide out the old filter and replace it with the new one.

4. Ensure the airflow arrows on the side of the filter point in the right direction, i.e., towards the blower and away from the cold air.

5. Now, replace the panel or door.

We would recommend you to check the user manual for your particular model in this regard. It will help you correctly locate the pilot tube and perform the necessary and recommended steps to properly remove it.

How to Clean a Day & Night Furnace

In order to keep your system in top condition, timely cleanliness is extremely important. Hence, follow the tips and tricks given below to keep everything as good as new.

  1. Turn off the power/gas to the furnace.

  2. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a damp rag. Remove the furnace access door by lifting it up and then out. Loose the screws in order to remove the burner cover.

  3. Next, vacuum the burners and furnace base.

  4. Gently remove the blower by unscrewing the control panel if it blocks the blower.

  5. Now, carefully clean the blower either with a vacuum or a soft brush.

  6. Carefully blow off the dust from the pilot using a straw. Try blowing off the dust from the hot surface ignitor in the same manner. Be very careful as it can break very easily.

  7. Clean the flame sensor as well.

  8. Then, remove and clean the oil caps. Also, oil the blower motor and shaft bearings. Make sure you don’t overdo them.

  9. Replace the air filters.

  10. Adjust the dampers for seasonal settings.
