Safety Considerations For Vogelzang Stoves

Getting a Vogelzang stove requires you to adhere to certain safety precautions. Here are some of them:

Fire Hazard

  • Ensure the stove is placed at a distance from any combustible materials, including the walls, floors, and ceilings.

  • The stove should be placed on a fire-resistant base.

  • Before starting up your stove, a mason should inspect the chimney.

  • Do not connect the wood stove to a chimney that is already serving another fuel-burning appliance.

  • Do not use flammable liquids such as gasoline on the stove.

  • Do not let the wood fire burn overnight or leave it unattended.

Chimney Requirements

  • In case you are using an existing fireplace chimney, make sure it is sealed off below the stove pipe’s point of entry. This way, no harmful gases will back up in the room.
  • You can seal off the fireplace opening or the flue between this opening and the stovepipe connection.

  • The stove pipe’s cross-section area should be twenty-five percent less than that of the chimney flue.

  • Do not connect more than one fuel-burning appliance to a chimney.

  • The chimney should have a flue lining and be in good condition.

  • Go for a hardwood that was seasoned six to twelve months ago.
  • Split wood before storage. Red oak, beech, and ironwood have excellent heating values amongst a few others.

How to Clean and Maintain a Vogelzang Stove

The stove is probably one of the most used items in our homes, and it should be cleaned on a regular basis. Using a wood stove can get quite messy; hence, maintaining it and keeping it in the best condition is important. Below are a few steps that will explain how you could keep your Vogelzang stove clean.

  1. Do NOT attempt to clean the stove if it is warm. Ensure that it is completely cool and unplugged.

  2. You will need a glass cleaner, some cleaning rags, and a burn pot poker for daily maintenance.

  3. The metal exterior can be cleaned with a clean cloth while the glass (inside and outside) should be cleaned with a glass cleaner.

  4. Clean out the holes in the burn pot to remove buildup and prevent air blockage.

  5. For weekly maintenance, use a paintbrush and a fire-safe container.

  6. The paintbrush can be used to brush off any ash that is built up into the container.

  7. For monthly maintenance, you will need a chimney sweep, fire-safe container, paintbrush, ash vacuum, gloves, ratchet, 5/16 and 7/16 sockets, and a drill #2 Phillips screwdriver.

  8. Vacuum inside the burnt chamber, around it, and the interior of the glass.

  9. Then clean out the heat exchanger following the steps below.

We hope this was helpful. Here’s a video of the process so that you can get a clearer idea.

How Do I Clean Out the Heat Exchanger on a Vogelzang Pellet Stove?

You should clean out your heat exchanger at least once a month. Here’s how:

  1. There is a cleanout plate on either side of the heat exchanger. These need to be removed to clean fly ash out of the heat exchanger. Use a vacuum to clean this.

  2. Close the cleanouts by screwing tightly.

  3. Open the side panel to access the convection blower, then disconnect all wires. Loosen and remove the bolts on the blower and use a paintbrush to clean the ash. Also, vacuum the interior of the stove housing and then screw the blower back.

  4. Repeat step 3 for the exhaust blower.
