King Pellet Stove Troubleshooting

Operating a pellet stove may sound challenging to some, especially if you haven’t used such a unit before. So, we have some quick solutions to fixable issues that might come up when you are using a King pellet stove.

King Pellet Stove Auger Problems

The most commonly occurring problem is the auger jam that happens every once in a while. When there is an auger jam, you will hear the auger motor trying to turn, but there will be no pellets falling. To fix this, disconnect the device and remove all the pellets from the hopper and clean the auger housing along with the sensors.

King Pellet Stove Draft Fan Blinking

This basically indicates that the vacuum sensor has detected a loss in pressure. This may be because there is negative pressure in the room itself with respect to the exhaust or the door has been left open. If there is an obstruction in the air intake or the housing is too tight, simply opening the windows should do the trick.

How to Reset the Vacuum Switch on a King Pellet Stove

The vacuum switch needs to be temporarily bypassed to check for any obstructions. If the unit functions with the vacuum switch bypassed, you will require a new one. Do not operate it with a switch bypassed; that is simply for testing purposes.

What Does Error 2 Mean on a King Pellet Stove?

Error 2 on a King pellet stove indicates that the hopper is empty, the auger is jammed, or the fuel quality has caused the fire to go out or burn way too slowly. A quick fix to all these is a thorough clean up.

Why Would Smoke Come Out of the Blower on a King Pellet Stove?

There are quite a few reasons why smoke would come out of the blower. These could be that the exhaust blower is not functioning properly, the hopper is stuffed with more pellets than it can handle, the intake pipe is unnecessarily long, etc.

Comparison Overview

People often find themselves in a position where they have to pick between two brands. Let’s take a look at how King compares to some other leading brands in the industry:

Vogelzang 5790 Pellet Stove vs. King KP130

Both of these units are appreciated for different reasons. Let’s take a look at how they compare:

Few features are common between the two products, such as the air wash system, which keeps the viewing glass clean. They also require the same fuel for operation. Both of them carry a large hopper capacity, which enables them to produce heat for longer.

The VogelZang 5790 is more expensive. The price difference isn’t drastic, but certainly worth mentioning. The price difference can be justified as it offers a greater heat output than the King Kp 130 and better area coverage as well.

King Pellet Stove vs. Pelpro

King and Pelpro stoves are often put against one another. Let’s take a look at how they compare:

Both brands have incredibly quietly operating units. They manufacture some of the quietest operating pellet stoves in the market, and they are greatly appreciated for it.

Pelpro stoves tend to be heavier and wider than King ones. King pellet stoves have a sleeker body, which allows them to be convenient to move and place in smaller spaces.

King pellet stoves have been around for much longer than Pelpro units. Even though the latter is of great quality and operates wonderfully, the brand reliability and market reputation are just better for older brands. King pellet stoves are considered more reliable.

How to Start a King Pellet Stove

Are you new to operating a pellet stove? If yes, then let’s take a look at the step by step breakdown of how to start a stove:

  1. King pellet stoves have a big loading area that accommodates lots of pellets easily.

  2. The process is simple; you need to load the pellets according to how much heat you need and for how long. Turn on to your preferred heat setting.

  3. It is important to choose the right type of pellet. Softwood is good for a less harsh warmth, whereas hardwood tends to produce a lot of heat and should be saved for extreme winters.

  4. A King pellet is set by default at 4.5 pounds auger feed rate per hour that will give you a burn time of about 18 hours.

  5. Set the auger according to the square footage and temperature of your house.

  6. At the control board, there is an ON and OFF button, an auger delay button, and a Moat button.

  7. To turn the product on, press the ON button, and the control board will display hr1, which translates to heat range 1. This is the lowest heat setting.

  8. You can use the arrow button to go up or down. Hr5 or heat range 5 is the highest.

  9. There is a pot where the pellets go once you turn the unit on. This might overflow if you keep it on.

  10. · So, hit the auger delay button once you’re done selecting the settings, so the pot doesn’t overfill. Once there are enough pellets in there to heat up, get the fire going.

How to Clean the Inside of a King Pellet Stove

Cleaning and maintenance of a pellet stove play a huge part in how well it works. Let’s take a look at how to clean your King pellet stove:

  1. You need a shop vac, which should be of metal, a screwdriver, dry, and wet paper towels.

  2. This process needs to be repeated every three or four days. Get a piece of cardboard and put it underneath the door to catch ashes.

  3. Then, open the door and wipe down the firebox’s glass and outer edge using a wet paper towel.

  4. Next, take the dry paper towel and clean the glass again.

  5. Pull the pellet pot out and dump the contents on the cardboard.

  6. Turn the shop vacuum on and use it on the inside of the firebox.

  7. Then, use the head of the screwdriver to scrape any ash or debris and vacuum that as well.

  8. On each side of the pellet pot is a panel; loosen the screws so you can slide it out. This will allow you to clean the space at the back.

  9. Clean the back of the panels with your vacuum.

  10. Next, a similar panel is located on the top, which needs to be cleaned in the same manner.

  11. You might even need to push your fingers in to get the stubborn ash out completely.

  12. Clean the back and front of all the panel pieces and place them in the back like before.

  13. The last thing to do is clean the pellet pot. Turn it over and bang it to get all the ash out.

  14. Once you’re done cleaning the pot, go ahead and place it back, making sure it’s centered.
